Novice Moot

Each year USALSA holds a mooting competition aimed at first year law students in trimester 3. The purpose and aim of this competition is to enable first year law students to ‘dip their toes in the water’ of mooting.

Through competing, students will develop specific skills required in mooting. These skills can be applied throughout subjects in the UniSA law degree and in their professional careers.

Some of the skills include being able to logically structure an argument; to understand the strengths and weaknesses of one’s own arguments; public speaking and advocacy skills. These are important skills to master and this competition allows students to learn and develop them in a fun and friendly environment.

Trainings are provided before the competition rounds by experienced later year students, members of faculty or a practising lawyer.

In 2017 the First Year Moot was renamed to Novice Moot. We thank our generous sponsors each year.
